M630 made for CP Rail
This unit
has been incorrectly labeled as "WNYP 631" (LAL) over the
last few years, but as of the end of 2006,
the unit is
still not officially a LAL unit..it was lettered as "SIXX
73" in late 2006.

This locomotive, the former New York Cross Harbor No. 25, is
now on display at "Riverside Park South"
on the west side of Manhattan, along the Hudson shore. The
locomotive was moved there in 2006.
the unit has been painted in rather poorly done pseudo-New
York Central scheme, and has part of a cab wall removed,
replaced by plexiglass,
to view the restored cab interior. The unit never belonged to
the New York Central.

LIRR 3100, Alco FA2, S/N 78607,

ex WM 304
Its still owned by LIRR. It was
made into a powerpack,
then had its cab section cut off
and made into a HEP car.
Its currently being rebuilt to a
mobile generator car.
(because its cab is gone, I dont
consider this a complete surviving loco..its more in the
"slug" class..-SL)

RRPX
2338, a MLW M636, was the last M636 on the CN roster.
She was retired by CN by 1996, but technically remained on
the CN roster until 2010!
When she was finally sold to RRPX, and headed over to Olean
NY to begin a second career with they WNYP.
2338 first arrived in Olean in November 2010.
Update- July 2011 - 2338 has not yet returned to service,
and is listed as "Long
Term OOS, No current plans for restoration"

Concerning the
heritage, and the previous numbers, of LAL C424's Number
421, 422, 423, and 424.
There has been some confusion about the previous numbers of
these four units, and it's all Guilfords fault! ;)
Guilford renumbured two of the units into Springfied
Terminal 70-series numbers, and two others got ST numbers
"on paper only"..
Then they were given D&H numbers again, then they got a
second (and final) set of Guilford numbers! This time being
lettered for Maine Central instead of Springfield
Terminal..The MEC numbers went back to the D&H 450
series,
but not in the same sequence as before! The MEC numbers are
the numbers the units wore when they came to the LAL in
1996.
LAL 421 was only 452.
LAL 422 was 451 and 455.
LAL 423 was only 454.
LAL 424 was 450 and 451.
Also, LAL 421 and 423
recieved Springfield Terminal numbers 71 and 73 *on paper
only*..They never phyically wore those numbers.
So when they "went back" to the D&H, they were still
wearing their original numbers.
However the other two
units, B&H 422 and LAL 424, *did* in fact wear ST
numbers 74 and 70, so when they recieved their MEC
numbers, they got different numbers than the original
D&H numbers..
Also, there has been
some conflicting information on the ST numbers some of the
units wore "on paper only"..
Historical data, from the Leatherstocking chapter NRHS, from
the 1987 timeframe (the time the C424's were given the ST
numbers)
supports the idea that the ST numbers were assigned in
chronological order..see the link below for the discussion
on the forum.
This is believed to be the correct sequence:
D&H 451 - ST 70 - (Received Guilford
paint, and lettered as ST 70)
D&H 452 - ST 71 - (Was ST 71 on paper only.)
D&H 453 - ST 72 - (Was ST 72 on paper
only.)
D&H
454 - ST 73 - (Was ST 73 on paper only.)
D&H
455 - ST 74 - (Received Guilford
paint, and lettered as ST 74)
D&H
456 - ST 75 - (Received Guilford
paint, and lettered as ST 75)
This was happening in 1987..two years later, in 1989,
ex-B&M EMD GP9's got numbers ST 71 and ST 72.
This has all led to a
TON of incorrect information on the internet about these
units! wrong numbers are posted all over.
Based on reliable research, I believe the number sequence on
this page is now correct.
See this thread for more information:
