Welcome to the Roundhouses of New York State list.
The purpose of this webpage is to document every Railroad Roundhouse that has ever existed in the state, past and present. It will also document turntables without roundhouses, and surviving roundhouses.

This is a joint project of the members of the New York State forum at Railroad.net.
Click here for the discussion thread that goes with this list.

If you have anything to add to this project, please post a note in the thread!
or email Scot. thanks!

How to use this webpage:

Roundhouses are listed alphabetically by Railroad name.
Then listed generally east to west by Railroad.
Roundhouse titles, "LV1" "LV2" etc. are arbitrary, and will probably be used as an ID key
on an eventual statewide roundhouse map.

Color Key:

Green Text = Roundhouse is still standing today. (2010)
Orange Text = Facility is demolished, but some remains are still visable, such as the pit or roundhouse foundation.
Black Text = All traces are obliterated from the face of the earth, nothing is visible today.

Some of the roundhouses and sites are visable from public property (public roads).
I will indicate which ones can actually be viewed from public property.
however nearly all are on private property, and many are buried deep on property still in use
by current railroads. You should never trespass on private property without permission!
not only can it be very dangerous, but it can also land you in trouble with the law.

The best way to "visit" all these sites is via the comfort of your own chair, in front of your computer.
Bing Maps has an excellent "birds eye view" feature that allows you to zoom right in and see
great detail, google maps is also excellent.

The cooridinates link for each roundhouse will take to you a Bing Map image of the site.
(just a tip, I find it easier to *right* click on the link, and choose "open in new window")

All-Time New York State Roundhouse & Turntable List.

Green Text = Roundhouse is still standing today. (2010) (or Turntable is still in use)
Orange Text = Facility is demolished, but some remains are still visable, such as the pit or roundhouse foundation.
Black Text = All traces are obliterated from the face of the earth, nothing is visable today.

If a site is in Green or Orange text, something is still visable on the ground.
If its black, there is nothing left to see today.

(RH+TT) = Roundhouse & Turntable.
(TT only) = Was always a turntable only, there was never a Roundhouse at this location.

if anyone has further data, photos, etc.that they would like to share (for existing or non-existing facilities)
let me know! thanks..
