Leviathan Model. Chapter 2 construction.

Actual construction for Masterclass2002 begins with Chapter 2.
Posted on August 19, 2002.
(you can read chapter 2 here.)

I spent all of late August and early September moving, so I didnt get started for a few weeks!

September 14, actual construction begins!
This is the first piece, the base of the pilot.

The next day..the center of the base is cut out and some spokes are cut.

Spokes sanded smooth. I didn't add all the spokes all at once becuse
the Leviathan has "pusher boards"..and I wasnt yet sure how to build
them into the pilot.

10 days later, here are the boards! They are not yet bolted to the
pilot, because the pilot must be painted first.
I really can't believe I built all this from scratch!

Had some trouble with the cylinder construction. Fletch uses "Araldite" glue to join
un-like surfaces. I was unable to find it in Rochester, so I tried regular 5-minute
epoxy instead..it didnt work! the styrene caps and PVC cylinder tubes are just
too smooth..the glue can't stick. even with "roughing up" (story)
so instead I made my cylinder end caps with the actual epoxy itself! just peeled off
the square styrene caps, and the epoxy formed a smooth plug.

Here are the epoxy end caps.

after sanding and painting..not bad!

Pilot is complete! (except for cylinder bands..those will be applied after painting.)
