There is an ex-NYC

Questionable Internet Data
Information on the internet says: "PC 6231 - EMD SD40 - Conn. Southern RR 6281" - there was no PC SD40 6231..this is probably PC 6281. (2007)
Information on the internet says:

looks like quite a
few
more
PC SD40's are still floating around somewhere!
as many as 35 PC/CR
SD40's
are, or were, operating with .
That is where the two
New

Lets track down those
SD40's!
:)
*note 2
The 33 PC GP38's
above all
went through the Norfolk Southern rebuild program in 2006,
emerging
classified
as GP38-2's.
they all were bought
new
by PC, operated through every year of Conrail (1976-1999)
and were transferred
to
NS in the 1999 Conrail split.
*note 3
26 PRR and PC SD40's
are
still surviving!
They were rebuilt
by Conrail in 1993 as SD40-2R's.
They were split
between
NS and CSX in the 1999 split, and are still operating today.
(2006)
The PRR SD40's are
now 40
years old, making them the oldest NYC/PRR/PC locomotives still
operating
with a Class1 Railroad.
*note 4
The Soo's seven GP15Cs, numbers 4100-4106 were built by Generation
II Locomotives using 1,500 horespower CAT 3512 prime movers atop
GP9
frames.
All featured ZTR computer controls and were delivered in the
winter
of 1990-1991.
Frame, Trucks, Tank and Long Hood appear to be from the original
PRR

Some interesting data on the last units painted for PRR & NYC, and the first painted for PC:
"I asked around at a couple different forums and the common answer is:

concerning the two
NYC
GE 70 tonners, NYC 512 and 513.
I originally had these two listed as 506
and
510..but
that was incorrect.
they are actually 512 and 513.
Data (in yellow) below from Steve Timko:
NYC # 509 Scrapped at Luntz in Warren, Ohio about 1964.
NYC #510 Used
at
Collinwood
shop switcher in c.1956. NYC #511
Sold to Ortner in 1952, Ortner sold to
Standard
Slag Co in 12/1952 as #42 for $30,000.00.
Originally at Youngstown Republic
Plant.
Sent to Weirton Plant and scrapped there.
Built 12/42 b/n 15172.(SMT photos Sept

-
Photo of 510, while in NYC sevice.
NYC #512 Sold
to
Ortner
in 1952. Ornter sold to Standard Slag Co in 9/1952 as
#40 for
$31,800.00.
Used at Youngstown Republic Plant.Carried
SSX numbers 40 and also #6 at times.
SSX sold to Silcott (D) who resold to
Valley
Mould & Iron #6114-A. NMCH to Ellwood Quality
Castings #
6114-A.
Retired at EEC.Built 12/42 b/n

(512 is in bad shape, suffered a major
electrical
fire at some point, and is being parted out and scrapped as of
January

parts are being used to help preserve
513.
- Scot)
NYC #513
Built by GE in 1942, carrying b/n 15174,
a
70 ton GE center cab.
(believed to have operated in the
Buffalo,
NY area during its New York Central days - Scot)
Sold to Ortner in 1952. Ortner sold
to SSX as #41 for $31,500.00 and assigned to Cambria Slag Co
at
Sharpsville,
Pa.
When Sharpsville closed, moved to
Youngstown
Republic Plant. Sold to VM&I (was Silcott involved
in
this?????)
as #6114-B.
NMCH to EEC #6114-B. Retired and
donated
to Rick Rowlands. Also carried SSX # 7 and 4100 at
times.(SMT
photo
12/5/1964)
Built 1942 b/n 15174.
Originally New York Central #513, sold to
Standard Slag Co in Youngstown as
#41 in 9/52 via Ortner (D). The unit also
carried SSX #7 and 4100 at times.
Sold to VM&I via Silcott (D) as
number
6114B. Retired in 2008.
513 was donated to the Tod
Engine Foundation in 2008, by Ellwood Engineered Castings,
who was
the last employer of the unit as a working switcher..
Tod Engine Foundation plans to keep the unit
in its current operating condition,
and preserve it in its last (current)
configuration
and paintscheme as a historic and well-used mill switcher.
Rick Rowlands of the Tod engine foundation says about 513:
"The 6114B will not be restored to NYC
livery,
but will be preserved as an Ellwood Engineered Castings
switcher.
The locomotive has undergone so many
alterations
and received so much damage during its life in mill service
that a restoration to its 1942 appearance
would not be possible without substantial replacement of
historic
fabric.
The locomotive has served 55 years in
mill
service and will be preserved as a piece of Youngstown
industrial
history."
-Rick Rowlands, January 2009.

There is conflicting information on-line concerning Georgia
Central
U30B number 1007.
Some sources claim GC 1007 was originally a C&O unit, other
sources
say 1007 was originally a New York Central unit.
turns out *both* are correct!
Georgia Central caused the confusion..
It is true that Georgia Central U30B 1007 was originally a C&O
unit.
It is also true that Georgia Central U30B 1007 was originally a
NYC
unit!
GC had two 1007's..they used the number twice..same with their
1006 and
perhaps other units.
So we have a GC1007:1 and a GC 1007:2.
most on-line sources and photo sites lump the two units together
and
dont know that there were two different units.
here is the first GC 1007, arrived on the GC in old Chessie paint
in
1991:
http://donsdepot.donrossgroup.net/dr0403/gcrr1007.jpg
repainted grey by 1992: (note the truck type)
http://www.railpictures.net/viewphoto.php?id=390679
then our NYC and "O&W" U30B (it was painted in O&W colors
at
one point) became the second GC 1007, or GC 1007:2.
this second GC 1007 is the New York Central unit:
http://www.rrpicturearchives.net/showPicture.aspx?id=148815
It is probably still scrapped though..there are no photos of the
unit
online after 2005. scrapping has not been confirmed however.

This entry:
NYC 9339 - Alco S1 - Whitewater
Valley
Railroad 9339 - Laurel, Indiana
Was removed from the
roster on June 30, 2016..because it turns out that Whitewater
Valley RR
number 9339 is not actually the original NYC 9339.
although Whitewater did unfortunately give their unit the same
number
as a real NYC Alco S1 number 9339 that did once exist, but is
now
scrapped.
and
they
painted it as NYC 9339. The Whitewater Valley RR number 9339
was
originally owned by Proctor & Gamble, and was never
actually a NYC
unit.
Data from the Whitewater Valley RR webpage: http://www.whitewatervalleyrr.org/roster/?op=details&id=2&cat=diesel&sid=64a6a735366bf5f9d07e36b67df2f3f4

Here is a set of
locos
I
also cant consider as "surviving"..because they are SO heavily
rebuilt..
As far as I can tell,
nothing
remains of the original locomotive except the frame and
trucks.
These are
Morrison-Knudsen
(MPI) MK1500D Locomotives.
16 of this type were
made
from ex NYC and PRR GP9's, and operate on the Port Terminal
Railroad,
in
Houston, Texas -

SD45 - This loco was on the survivor list as MRL
377..turns
out that info was incorrect.
MRL
377
was
originally
Atlantic
Coast

so PC 6235 was never a
MRL unit.
PC
6235
became
CR
6235
and
then
C&NW
6562, and then traded to EMD
in
August 1986 on a SD60 order - scrapped.

rebuilt by GE with 12-251 engines in the early 1980s, making
them
C425ms and mechanical equivalents of C420s.
They were scrapped in
Saginaw
Michigan by Lake State Railway in 2011.
