6634!
;)
several
differing
reports
of
her
status/demise
are
floating about. there are
SIX
conflicting theorys!
1.
museum at Spooner? http://www.railfan.net/lists/erielack-digest/200207/msg00269.html
(it is now believed this never happened)
2.
Rail
World
Inc.?
(AARX)
(Ed
Burkhardt)
http://www.railfan.net/lists/erielack-digest/200207/msg00328.html
3.
Was
perhaps
Indiana
Harbor
Belt
(IHB)
7601 for a time..then to GE.
4.
Went
to
GE
as
a
leaser,
then to Larrys truck & electric, then scrapped
by
Larry.
5.
sold
and
went
to
Mexico in
2003.
6.
Will
become
IHB
7601 *after* rebuilding in Mexico!
I have seen no photo evidence of an actual IHB 7601.
She
is likely scrapped by now..but with all the conflicting
info, its hard
to know for sure!
The
most
likely
scenerio
is
that
after
being sold by CP, she was a GE
leaser,
sold to Larry, then scrapped by Larry.
but
the
"sold
to
Mexico"
story
adds
in an interesting twist..she wouldnt be
sold to Mexico (presumably by Larry), AND also scrapped by
Larry!
you
cant
have
both..
So
im
giving
it
90%
odds
"scrapped
at Larry's truck and electric"
and
10%
odds
she
still
exists
in
Mexico..can anyone really confirm
either
way?
Update, January 5, 2009.
ok! found something new..
Here is the likely fate for 6634, combining many of the above theorys into one story, which IMO is very likely the correct story:

Apparently,
WC
sold it to Railworld, who in turn sold it to IHB, and it was
sent to
Mexico for rebuilding, where it was apparently scrapped. It
never shows
up on any IHB roster.

Im recieved an email from a railroad employee (I wont post

wrecked as the lead unit in a head-on collision in Bertram,
California
on Nov 10 2007.
The unit was
officially
numbured UP 2770 "on paper" at the time, but might have been
still been
physically wearing her old number, SP 8694.
Reports say the
unit will likely be scrapped, but scrapping has not been
confirmed

Concerning EL 423 (BVRY 8201, 2nd) an EMD
NW2.
The unit was operating with BVRY, but I recieved an email from
Greg
Kulp who said the unit has been stripped down,
and is being converted to a "Captive Unit"
Greg says: "A captive loco is similar to a slug. It
draws power
from a 2 conductor 250 VDC catenary, is radio controlled,
and has a compressor for its air brakes. Four old ALCO
S2's are
currently in such service, due to be replaced with the above
NW2's plus
2 other EMD's.
At least a little good news, some components and sheet metal
from both
above NW2's have been (or will be)
donated to the Reading Co. Technical & Historical Society
for use
in their NW2 (RDG 103)."
January 2013
thanks Greg!
More notes.
the 2 Reading & Northern SD45-2's have been scrapped.
DL&W GP7
970
still sort of exists as a slug.
(DL&W 970)
(EL
1409) (CR 5929) (ATSF 1108:2) (ATSF 108:4) and currently BNSF
3957
personally I
dont
consider a slug to be a surviving locomotive, but thats just
me! ;)
but here she is
anyway, still worthy of being listed.
Oddly, there
are
FOUR
E-units painted in Erie & DL&W colors that were not
originally
Erie or DL&W locomotives at all!
“Erie 834” URHS
of NJ, painted as Erie 834, originally NYC, was never actually
an Erie
unit.
“Erie 835” URHS
of NJ, painted as Erie 835, originally PRR, was never
actually an
Erie unit.
"DL&W 807"
CNYRHS,
painted as DL&W 807, originally PRR. was never actually a
DL&W
unit.
"DL&W 808"
CNYRHS,
painted as DL&W 808, originally PRR. was never actually a
DL&W
unit.
(I wish museums
wouldn’t do this..but at least they didn’t give them REAL
former Erie
or
DL&W numbers..so that’s helpful..I guess. )
and..for some
unknown
reason, there was once a SD24 painted in DL&W colors!
Steamtown did
it.
(they should know better than that! ;)
the real
Lackawanna
never owned a SD24.
the unit is now
in a museum in Green Bay.
here is a photo
of the unit in Lackawanna colors!

Another EL
loco has been lost, one of the big SD45-2's.
EL 3680 was scrapped

2011.
EL

went
to
Conrail

CSX retired the locomotive in 2005, and in November 2005 it
became Ohio

The unit sat stored on the OC for several years, until the
Genesee
& Wyoming bought the OC in 2008.
3680 didnt "make the cut" (it might not have been operable)
and the
unit was sold to Larrys Truck & Electric,
where it was scrapped in December 2011.
